Got Butterflies?

InSuesShoes.com Positivity
October 12, 2023

Good. Consider yourself lucky. You know the feeling. Senses spark. Focus narrows. Heartbeats quicken. Far from our comfort zones, stomachs begin to jump and flutter. Perhaps it’s almost time for the big presentation. Or, you’re about to walk into an interview. Maybe it’s moments from going live on-air—or perhaps your deadline is ‘tick-tocking’ away on the clock. The butterflies within you … Read More

It’s Possible to Work Yourself Stupid

InSuesShoes.com Life Advice
April 5, 2019

When urgencies and deadlines rule your world, all else in life can float by without notice. I’ve been there. For YEARS I was there. An earthquake in Nepal? No kidding! My kid’s doctor bill is overdue? Oopsie. And, how old is my dog anyway??? I ask simply because I really don’t know. I’ve been too busy, buried within work trenches for the last decade to lift my gaze and see life passing me by.

Monkey Cards

March 3, 2019

Warning… When ‘I’m fine!!’ befalls thine beating eardrums, here’s its translation:  You’ve just agitated—although not yet entirely removed—a grenade’s detonation pin. Set it down. Walk away. Not that it’s all your fault. But, it probably is. Hubby and I quietly pride ourselves in rarely having disagreements. Fighting is not our style; it’s just not a typical practice for our personalities. … Read More

Slugs Are Nice

InSuesShoes.com Life Advice
January 7, 2019

Snowflakes gently fell to the ground. Tree branches held piles of winter’s sparkly fluff. Brilliant white blanketed the grass. And yellow holes splotched what would have otherwise been a pretty winter scene. Leave it to my four-legged BFF to keep it real. Record-breaking low temps welcomed me to our new Midwestern home. Schools were cancelled, businesses were closing—and even the … Read More

Change is Beautiful. Even when it SUCKS.

The bedroom was pink, just how I liked it. My canopy bed was draped in dainty, white linens. Just how I liked it. My parents knew how to make a little punk princess-wanna-be happy. And I liked it.

Yep, my room was my refuge. My hangout. My personal recharge station. I’d close the door behind me and enter my world. And once a month or so, I’d overhaul my kingdom with a complete rearranging and redecorating of said Sue-Land.

So I was a weird kid.

Or it could be that beneath the young pigtailed exterior, I’d actually discovered a valuable life lesson: change could transform emotion.

With change, surroundings still felt comfortingly familiar, but yet new. Clean. Organized. And I’d surely uncover new amazing discoveries—like unearthing pics of Bo and Luke Duke that I’d TOTALLY forgotten about.

Change refreshed my atmosphere. And it was All. Mine.

Change is everywhere, and within everyone, so as it’s the one, true constant in life, why not appreciate + embrace it?

Look outdoors. Or better yet, lace up the tennies and step into the fall weather.

In October, change is in-your-face evident. Leaves change colors to brilliant yellows, oranges and reds. Air temperatures change from summer’s heat to a cool, crisp breeze. Breathe in the air. And be grateful for the breath.

With an attitude of embrace, let’s recognize that change can, indeed, equate to goodness, new discoveries + opportunity. Although it’s never easy, even painful change can lead to peaceful contentment and personal growth.

In short, change can effectually knock life’s fragments into concise understanding + order.

Hey, we’ve all journeyed to arrive where we are today. Where we sit right now. In this moment.

The past for you may have been a smooth road (and hooray if this is you!), but for many of us? It was Pothole City with periodic pitstops in, well, the pits. But you know what? Instead of holding on to yesterday’s pain, interpret the past as a segue that helped transform, or change, you into the person you are today. And then? Let go of the past pains. Remember, the past is a time of reference, not a place of residence. Live where you are right NOW.

So inhale cool temps and be grateful for the breath. Step on fallen leaves to hear their seasonal crunch. Notice the scents of the season. Appreciate life’s changes. Keep fighting through challenges, expecting positive growth on the other side. Because thanks to change? You’ll find an even stronger, better you.

Just how we like it.
