December 10, 2018

I want to provide some helpful guidance to my friends who are experiencing huge life transitions. Some people are going through divorce (something I’ve experienced), some are undergoing cancer treatment (like I did many, many years ago), some are experiencing job loss. Does it feel like your world is caving in? In many cases you can feel like your world … Read More

Change is Beautiful. Even when it SUCKS.

The bedroom was pink, just how I liked it. My canopy bed was draped in dainty, white linens. Just how I liked it. My parents knew how to make a little punk princess-wanna-be happy. And I liked it.

Yep, my room was my refuge. My hangout. My personal recharge station. I’d close the door behind me and enter my world. And once a month or so, I’d overhaul my kingdom with a complete rearranging and redecorating of said Sue-Land.

So I was a weird kid.

Or it could be that beneath the young pigtailed exterior, I’d actually discovered a valuable life lesson: change could transform emotion.

With change, surroundings still felt comfortingly familiar, but yet new. Clean. Organized. And I’d surely uncover new amazing discoveries—like unearthing pics of Bo and Luke Duke that I’d TOTALLY forgotten about.

Change refreshed my atmosphere. And it was All. Mine.

Change is everywhere, and within everyone, so as it’s the one, true constant in life, why not appreciate + embrace it?

Look outdoors. Or better yet, lace up the tennies and step into the fall weather.

In October, change is in-your-face evident. Leaves change colors to brilliant yellows, oranges and reds. Air temperatures change from summer’s heat to a cool, crisp breeze. Breathe in the air. And be grateful for the breath.

With an attitude of embrace, let’s recognize that change can, indeed, equate to goodness, new discoveries + opportunity. Although it’s never easy, even painful change can lead to peaceful contentment and personal growth.

In short, change can effectually knock life’s fragments into concise understanding + order.

Hey, we’ve all journeyed to arrive where we are today. Where we sit right now. In this moment.

The past for you may have been a smooth road (and hooray if this is you!), but for many of us? It was Pothole City with periodic pitstops in, well, the pits. But you know what? Instead of holding on to yesterday’s pain, interpret the past as a segue that helped transform, or change, you into the person you are today. And then? Let go of the past pains. Remember, the past is a time of reference, not a place of residence. Live where you are right NOW.

So inhale cool temps and be grateful for the breath. Step on fallen leaves to hear their seasonal crunch. Notice the scents of the season. Appreciate life’s changes. Keep fighting through challenges, expecting positive growth on the other side. Because thanks to change? You’ll find an even stronger, better you.

Just how we like it.
